Chinese Seller Lists Unplayable GTA 6 PS5 Disc in Collector's Set
The story in short
A Chinese seller has posted a Grand Theft Auto VI physical edition for PS5, yet the discs cannot be used on any console, raising concerns for collectors and fans.
A Chinese seller has listed a physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI for the PlayStation 5, but the discs cannot be played on any console, according to Notebookcheck on October 17. The offering arrives just days before the highly anticipated launch window in November.
What we know
The listing describes a “collector’s set” that includes cases and Blu‑ray discs for both the Standard and Ultimate Editions of GTA 6. The seller markets the package as a physical alternative to the digital‑only launch that Rockstar has hinted at for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, Notebookcheck notes that “the physical media isn’t playable on any console,” meaning the discs are effectively decorative.
No official statement from Rockstar Games confirms a physical release for either platform, and the company has not announced any disc‑based launch date. The report also points out that no Xbox or PS5 disc is expected on the official release day.
Why it matters for gamers
For collectors, the promise of a tangible GTA 6 edition is alluring, especially as other major titles are slated for November, according to Polygon’s roundup of upcoming releases. The disappointment of receiving a non‑functional disc could erode trust in third‑party sellers and fuel speculation about future physical releases.
Beyond the collector’s market, the news underscores the ongoing demand for physical media in an era dominated by digital downloads. It also highlights the importance of verifying sources before purchasing limited‑edition hardware or software, a lesson that applies across all platforms, from Sony PlayStation to Microsoft Xbox.
